Model Detail
Carbon-500M
—Carbon-500M is a large language model with 256M parameters released by HuggingFaceBio. The model is registered under the text-generation pipeline tag on Hugging Face, distributed under the permissive apache-2.0 license.
Carbon-500M ships with 256M parameters. The apache-2.0 license is permissive, allowing commercial deployment and derivative work without per-seat fees, though attribution requirements still apply.
Carbon-500M is best fit for general-purpose chat and instruction-following workloads. Treat this as a starting matrix rather than a benchmark verdict — the right deployment usually depends on the specific evaluation suite that mirrors your workload.
How Reliable Are Large Language Models for Soil Organic Carbon Assessment? An Australian Benchmark
arXiv:2610.18201v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Soil organic carbon (SOC) is an indicator of agricultural soil condition and carbon storage, but numerical outputs from large language models (LLMs) require validation before use in monitoring or management. We evaluated seven general-purpose LLM con
A Footprint-Aware, High-Resolution Approach for Carbon Flux Prediction Across Diverse Ecosystems
arXiv:2512.01917v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Eddy-covariance (EC) flux towers provide in situ measurements of $CO_2$ flux and serve as the ground-truth data for predictive `upscaling' models derived from satellite products. However, many satellites now resolve spatial scales smaller than an E
Learning Principal-Agent Contracts for Equitable Smallholder Carbon Farming under Moral Hazard and Adverse Selection
arXiv:2609.20404v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Agricultural soils are a major untapped carbon sink. Carbon farming is emerging as a promising practice for tapping this potential. Smallholder farmers, who dominate agriculture across South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, are key to scaling climate mitig
Carbon-Aware Routing for Function Calling in Edge-Cloud LLM Systems
arXiv:2609.13559v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) with function-calling capabilities are becoming critical for modern agentic AI systems. Nevertheless, current deployments typically route inferences to powerful cloud-based models, incurring significant energy use and carbo
Toward Sustainable Distributed LLM Inference: A Systems Synthesis and Research Agenda for an Energy-, Carbon-, and Cache-Aware llm-d Control Plane
arXiv:2609.05565v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Large language model (LLM) sustainability is increasingly a serving-systems problem, not only a training problem. In production, energy and carbon impact depend on more than model size: workload shape, batching, key-value (KV) cache reuse, prefill/de
Inducing Permutation Invariant Priors in Bayesian Optimization for Carbon Capture and Storage Applications
arXiv:2605.02409v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Bayesian Optimization is an iterative method, tailored to optimizing expensive black box objective functions. Surrogate models like Gaussian Processes, which are the gold standard in Bayesian Optimization, can be inefficient for inputs with permuta
